What Is A Necklace?

A necklace is a piece of jewelry that is worn around the neck. Anything resembling a piece of string, metal, rope, or lace worn around the neck can be considered a necklace. The most common type of necklace is one made from a metal chain, usually gold or silver. However, necklaces can also consist of strings of pearls or gemstones in the form of a chain.

Necklaces are offered in a variety of lengths, from 14" to 36". Shorter lengths are used to accentuate the collarbone and neck, as well as flatter the neckline. Longer lengths can help to elongate the torso. You can also create a layered look with multiple necklaces of varying lengths. 

What Is A Pendant?

A pendant is a small charm, symbol, or piece of jewelry attached to a necklace, anklet, earring, or bracelet. While they can be found dangling from strings of pearls or gemstones, pendants are typically combined with gold or silver chains. Also, you must be able to remove a pendant from its chain in order for it to be considered a true pendant.   

Pendants can be good luck charms, symbols of faith or love, used to commemorate a person or event, or they can be a fashionable accessory. A nice pendant can act as an accent piece for a layered look, standing out among various necklaces. Most pendants are sold with a coordinating chain, but some can be purchased separately and added to a necklace later.
