“The path to success is to take massive, determined action.” -Tony Robbins
This quote hits close to home for those born in the month of August, having such characteristics as: Determination, Dedication, and Grit.
We are back with another birthstone breakdown, and this time we are talking all things Peridot.

Being first mined in the caves off the Red Sea, Peridot is the gemstone of Egypt, and is often referred to as the “Gem of the sun” for its dazzling hue. At the time Peridot was actually thought to be Chrysolite, a name given to gems whose colors were more in line with modern day Topaz. It wasn’t until more modern times when we had the ability to correctly identify and discern between the two.

It is often said that during the European middle ages massive Peridot stones adorned the walls and ceilings of great cathedrals. Unfortunately, many of the massive stones did not survive the middle ages, and were eventually all cut down into smaller stones to be placed in jewelry.
As the centuries passed Peridot began to be known as “The evening emerald” because it’s hue replicated one of an emerald, but to a softer degree, almost as if the evening sun were shown through it.

Peridot is often thought to aid those who wear them in the form of digestion and detoxification assistance. Many believe it holds the power to heal kidneys, livers, and gallbladders.
Going with the detoxification aspect, others believed that peridot actually opened one’s heart up and could help cure such things as depression and heart disease.

In today’s world we know Peridot as the birthstone of those born in August, and for it’s almost tropical hue. While most stones are under 2 carats, you can find some of the 2 to 3 carat size for a hefty price. Stones much bigger than that are seen as extremely rare and hard to find.
From ancient sun stones, to middle ages cathedrals, Peridot is not a gem to be looked over. It needs no help standing out on it’s own.
